Caribbean Dreams - Canadian Grocer

The founders of Neale’s Sweet N’ Nice are bringing a taste of Trinidad to Canada with their flavourful ice creams. When Charles Alfred Neale was looking for a way to feed his family of 12 children in Trinidad and Tobago in the 1940s, he decided to launch his own business making ice cream. Neale made the ice cream using tropical fruit bought from local farmers and sold it by peddling his ice cream bike through the streets of Southern Trinidad, shouting “sweet n nice!”

Sweet N Nice is one of my favourites (the pineapple coconut flavour is my personal favourite). I love that they have Caribbean ice cream flavours with real fruits- you can really taste the difference! They’ve been a big source of inspiration to me and many other Black food entrepreneurs by continuing their grandfather’s legacy, who started this business in Trinidad in the 1940s.
